Meeting people is exciting — put your safety first online and offline. These tips work alongside our Community Guidelines and Terms.
Before you meet
• Video-call or voice-call first when possible so you recognise the person
• Meet in a public place for early dates; avoid isolated locations at night
• Tell a friend your plans and location; share a check-in time and a way home
• Arrange your own transport so you can leave independently
• Stay sober enough to make clear decisions; watch drinks and belongings
• Trust discomfort — you can leave anytime without explaining yourself
Protect your information and money
• Do not share financial details, government IDs, or your home address early
• Never wire money, buy gift cards, crypto, or “invest” for someone you met online
• Keep login credentials private; enable device lock and app PIN if available
• Be wary of anyone rushing intimacy, love-bombing, or asking you to leave the app quickly
• Prefer staying on TraitMatch messaging until you trust the person — reports and blocks are easier here
In-app tools
• Block and report suspicious or abusive users (reports are reviewed; child-safety reports are prioritised)
• Pause discovery anytime: Settings → Show me in Match (off)
• Use Incognito if you prefer not to appear in discovery until you message first
• Adjust visibility flags on profile fields you prefer to keep private
• Delete your account anytime: Settings → Delete account (also https://traitmatch.pages.dev/account-deletion)
We do not run criminal background checks on all users. You are responsible for your interactions online and offline. If something feels wrong, leave and report.
Emergencies
If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first, then report in-app when safe.
